Ancient healing technique combining suction cups with massage to stretch fascia, improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and accelerate recovery. Included free for all members at Breathe Massage & Fitness.
Cupping therapy is a traditional healing technique that uses suction cups placed on the skin to lift the tissue, decompress muscle and fascia, and increase blood flow to targeted areas. At Breathe Massage & Fitness, cupping is integrated into your massage session as a powerful add-on for recovery and pain relief.
You may have seen those distinctive circular marks on Olympic swimmers and elite athletes — that’s cupping. The temporary marks (which fade over a few days) are a sign of increased circulation to the area, not bruising in the traditional sense.
While traditional massage compresses tissue, cupping does the opposite — it lifts and decompresses. This combination of techniques in a single session lets your therapist work both directions, releasing adhesions that compression alone can’t reach. Cups can be left stationary or slid across the skin (with oil) for a moving-cup technique that’s especially effective on the back and IT band.
Cupping is added to your regular massage session. Your therapist applies oil and places cups (typically silicone or glass with a hand pump) on specific tight areas. You’ll feel a strong pulling sensation that some describe as a “reverse massage.” It’s generally comfortable and many clients find it deeply relieving.
Expect circular marks on the skin where cups were placed. These aren’t bruises — they’re a temporary discoloration from increased blood flow that fades within 3-7 days. The marks are completely normal and a sign the therapy is working.
Cupping is offered as an add-on to any massage session. Members of any monthly plan receive cupping included at no extra charge. If you regularly want cupping with your massage, joining a membership is the most economical option starting at $120 per session. See membership plans.
